Marilyn and her friend, Kay Foley, founded Bag & Boob Babes in 2012 in Mesa, Arizona when their friend, Karen, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Karen went to the hospital for her mastectomy with a set of Knitted Knockers and a drain apron. Her Nurse navigator saw the products and asked if she could get them for her other patients. Through Karen's experience, Marilyn, a nurse, quickly understood the need for these products and she realized that rather than pinning drains to a camisole, it would be more convenient and comfortable for all breast cancer patients to have access to an apron where they could place the drains after having a mastectomy. That was the beginning of Bag & Boob Babes and this non-profit charity has been growing and going strong ever since.
Being a life-long sewist, when invited to a B&BB meeting in 2014 and learning that they needed people to sew, Sheila was happy to volunteer. Back in Idaho, Sheila found a need for the B&BB comfort items and also a need in Eastern Washington. Sheila began recruiting sewists and knitters to make drain aprons and Knitted Knockers. Bag & Boob Babes has been going strong in the Coeur d'Alene, ID area since 2015. Sheila is also the face of Bag & Boob Babes in our "How To" videos. Sheila is continually thankful that God has given her this ministry of blessing breast cancer patients in her retirement.
Cathy has been active in Bag & Boob Babes in Arizona since 2014. In 2017, Cathy attended an American Cancer Society Walk in Indiana to request the left over T-shirts to be sewn into chemo caps. While at the walk, Cathy was introduced to several individuals she felt would be instrumental in helping the Bag & Boob Babes organization. She put out a call for help and received lots of unexpected volunteers and donations. In addition to being a chemo cap sewist, Cathy also supports the Arizona chapter of B&BB by mailing products to locations in the eastern part of the country. Cathy splits her time between Indiana in the summer months and Arizona in the winter time.
Bag & Boob Babes is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
